Connecting Country 2026 AGM: Wildfire & Ecological Restoration Presentation with Assoc. Professor Lauren Bennett
Posted on 5 November, 2026 by Hadley Cole
Join us on Thursday 19 November for Connecting Country’s 2026 AGM, with guest presenter Associate Professor Lauren Bennett from The University of Melbourne.
Lauren is a part of the FLARE Wildlife Research team, one of Australia’s largest wildfire research groups. Her research has a focus on processes in Australian ecosystems. Her research involves a diversity of topics including carbon and nutrient cycling, vegetation quality and carbon assessment, plant regeneration strategies, plant interactions with soil, and plant responses to changing climate and fire regimes. Her recent work assesses fire impacts on ecosystems using a suite of integrated methods based on field and remotely sensed data, which are integrated into models for predicting effects of changing climate and fire regimes on ecosystem persistence and carbon stability.
Lauren will share research to date that explores the recovery of ecosystem processes after fire. A topic pertinent to many following the devastation of the January 9 Bushfires in Harcourt and surrounds.
