Working with public land managers
Checklist for Landcare/Friends Groups intending to work on public land:
- Determine the appropriate land manager for the project site. This will usually be either Parks Victoria, Department of Environment, Water, and Planning, or Mount Alexander Shire Council. Please contact Hadley if you would like help using online mapping to find this out (hadley@connectingcountry.org.au or (03)5472 1594).
- Either:
(a) CLICK HERE to download the Permission to Work on Crown Land form, which applies to both Department of Environment, Land, Water, and Planning (DELWP)- and Mount Alexander Shire Council (MASC)-managed land,
(b) Contact Noel Muller (contact details below) to discuss any works your group would like to do on Parks Victoria-managed land. - You will need to let the relevant land manager(s) know about what you’d like to do at least 12 weeks before the proposed works are to commence (see contact details below). Hadley can support your group with this if needed.
- The land manager will then categorise your group’s activity(s) as either (a) a Routine Activity, (b) an Advisory Activity, (c) a Negotiation Activity – Class A or Class B or (d) an Agreement Activity. (See the LUAA Fact Sheet below for more details on what these mean).
Land managers will get back to your group if they have any further questions or if your proposed Landcare activities trigger the need for any conditions.
NB: A possible condition of certain Landcare activities will be that a Dja Dja Wurrung representative must be present at the time of the activity and/or that they will need to undertake a site assessment beforehand. There are fees associated with the involvement of the Dja Dja Wurrung (CLICK HERE for more information), the payment of which will need to be discussed and agreed with land managers in advance.
