The priority vegetation for the 2010-2011 funding is Yellow-Box (Eucalyptus melliodora) Woodlands, which includes the following Ecological Vegetation Classes (EVCs);
- Creekline Grassy Woodland
- Alluvial Terraces Herb-rich Woodland
- Plains Grassy Woodland
- Hills Herb-rich Woodland
For detailed information on EVC’s including maps and lists of species visit the DSE Native Vegetation page here.
Yellow-Box Woodlands occur right accross the Mount Alexander Shire region. See below to find out how you can download a map of the priority vegetation to view as an overlay in google earth.
Step 1: You need to have google earth on your computer. Click here to download google earth and follow the promps to install. It’s free.
Step 2: Click here to download the priority veg layer and save it to your computer. (Note this is a 4MB file)
Step 3: Drag the PriorityVeg.kmz file onto the Google Earth window. Or if you have Google Earth open the file will set automatically.
You should now be able to see the layer draped over the terrain.
Note: that this layer has been developed to represent ecological communities containing Yellow Box (Eucalyptus melliodora) across the Connecting Country project area. It should be only used as a guide augmented by field visits to accurately assess the vegetation type and condition.
